You can never be too prepared (or too busy)!

These past 2 weeks in ISM have allowed me to narrow down my field of study in my topic of Psychology and further prepare for our upcoming Business Symposium. They have been a very busy couple of weeks, however I have enjoyed the research I have conducted and the work I have produced.

In terms of research, I completed Research Assessment #4 over an article about how cognition influences the intent to purchase. I learned about risk perception and the distributed cognitive perspective. I also learned about different variables that influence people to purchase prepared dishes and how knowledge and intentions are connected. The different variables include individual, geographical, and cultural variables with individual power holding the most influence. I gleaned that the more knowledge one has will in turn cause them to have stronger intentions, and this knowledge varies as each customer does not have the same amount of knowledge regarding specific topics. Additionally, I completed our Topic Proposal which was a more in-depth description of what topic I would like to pursue and the special knowledge/skills that will assist me throughout my research. I am grateful for the opportunity to describe my topic and elaborate on what led me to study it this year and its overall significance to me. I believe it will be a great tool for me to look back on as I conduct my research and solidify a plan for my Original Work. I submitted my interview assessment that I conducted with Ms. Waide and reflected on the unpredictability of psychology. The interview was beneficial practice as I will be conducting additional interviews soon at our Business Symposium and to look for potential mentors.

To talk more about my preparation for our Business Symposium, I had a meeting with the other ISM 2 volunteers I will be presenting with and participated in mock interviews in class. Me and the other ISM 2 volunteers met at an offsite location to rehearse and edit our presentation. I enjoyed getting to meet them in person for the first time and chatting with them about our personal ISM 1 journeys. We rehearsed through our presentation and bounced ideas off of one another to enhance our individual slides. This meeting boosted my confidence about presenting and I look forward to having our final review in front of Mrs. Russell. Our mock interviews in class were helpful as I was able to once again practice my interviewing skills and gain critiques that will benefit me as I talk with professionals and other students. I am very excited to connect with others and present at the Business Symposium with fellow volunteers.

There is so much to look forward to and I can’t wait to lead and help others as I continue on my ISM 2 journey!
