During the previous two weeks in ISM, I completed my first Research Assessment with interview questions, peer reviewed interview questions, and conducted practice/mock interviews. We recently had a much-needed long weekend, and I enjoyed the time to relax. I’ve been trying to get back into a routine with school and balance college applications with schoolwork.
Writing my first Research Assessment was very helpful as I was able to list the specific topics I am interested in learning about and elaborated on the different practical applications of psychology I want to dive deeper into. I also created questions for upcoming interviews, but had a harder time coming up with questions compared to last year. I believe this is because I have less experience with my topic this year, but this being said, I think I was still able to create a wide variety of questions suited for many professionals in the field of psychology. I asked a peer to look over and review the questions I made, and received great feedback. She helped me add onto my existing questions and rephrase them.
We also conducted mock interviews and took on the roles of both professional and student. I believe that having this practice was an effective way to practice interviewing skills and refresh on professional etiquette. I noticed that I used filler words and talked a lot with my hands, so I hope to continue practicing professional etiquette and minimize these habits. I liked guiding ISM 1 students through the process as I gave feedback on specific questions and demonstrated what an interview would look like.
Our upcoming assessment will be an annotated bibliography and I look forward to reading over a variety of articles and providing a brief overview about them.
