This week in ISM I conducted my first in-person interview and submitted my first Research Assessment solely focused on Original Work. I was extremely tired and felt overwhelmed with all of my assignments this week, so I plan to work harder and complete my assignments earlier in order to feel better prepared and lessen my stress.
My third interview was with Ms. Peyton McCutchen, an English and ISM teacher at Emerson High School. I loved hearing from her perspective as an ISM teacher and learning about her journalism background as she has a Master’s degree in journalism. She discussed how technology has impacted journalism, her start to her current career, and her most memorable writing experience among other things. I enjoyed being able to discuss matters with her in person and chat with her at her workplace. While technology is extremely helpful, I enjoyed being able to conduct an interview without the possible technological difficulties. It was a pleasure getting to interview Ms. McCutchen and I hope to chat with her again soon.
Additionally, I completed my Research Assessment #9 and found an article that described helpful journalistic interviewing competencies. That article was very insightful and I loved the way it elaborated on the different competencies and provided advice as to how journalists should conduct themselves to ensure a successful interview. This research assessment helped me create a solid foundation for the interviewing tips that I would like to incorporate into my Original Work and I hope to maximize the information given to me to further enhance my own interviewing skills.
I am so glad I am able to connect with professionals and conduct extensive research through ISM. However, I hope to get more rest and manage my time better as this year progresses.
