Looking at what's ahead

This week in ISM was one that allowed me to see just how close I am to the finish line with my Final Product! I am very excited to finish my presentation for middle schoolers and teach them about the importance of media literacy.

In class we spent some time going over Final Presentation Night requirements such as invitations and programs. I created the first draft of my invitation and incorporated a floral theme with my ISM theme colors. Talking about the necessary requirements for the event is building my excitement but also my nervousness. I can’t wait to speak to people about everything that I’ve done so far, but I know that this process entails lots of practice and preparation. 

I also submitted another update of my Product Log and am looking forward to continuing to work on it and add some final touches to it. I started this week by spending some time editing my Final Product’s appearance and ensuring it looked professional and informative. I also asked Mrs. Russell about the process of traveling to middle schools and she suggested that I talk to our school principal to learn more about it. I emailed her to schedule a meeting and hope to meet with her to discuss the process this upcoming week. 

This week we had a Product Progress Assessment due, but we do have an extended deadline for next Friday (Thanks Mrs. Russell!) I started compiling the research I have completed and the surveys I have created which will be included in my Final Product itself. It was a lovely reminder of the amount of research and thought I have poured into my Final Product, and I believe that this reflection will help me focus on the main points I would like to discuss in my Final Product.

Another thing we talked about in class were ISM 1 and 2 interviews. We discussed the process and how the interview process will be focusing on the applicant’s character and personality, not necessarily their academics. I am very excited to continue the ISM 2 application process as I adore being in the ISM program and want to continue to be a part of it.  

Lastly, I had a Mentor Visit with Ms. Berry and we discussed my Digital Portfolio, dates/deadlines I have established to ensure I am on track for Final Presentation Night, and my Final Product so far. We also talked about the show Gilmore Girls and some of our other favorite TV shows. She mentioned that she had submitted feedback about my Digital Portfolio and liked my website’s overall appearance. Additionally, I talked with her about my plans to go to middle schools in the beginning of April and asked if she could provide me with some informal feedback so that I can be well-prepared for my test-run and actual presentations. She agreed and we set up our next mentor visit for Monday. 

This week is a short one and I aim to finish all of my work before the long weekend!
