What a fun week in ISM! This week was one that allowed me to focus on presentation skills and make great headway on the creation of my Final Product.

I made some finishing touches on my Display Board and Original Work Portfolio. I added an updated resume onto my board, and ensured everything looked clean and professional. I took the feedback I received from Mrs. Russell on my Research Assessments and applied it, updating my Original Work Portfolio Binder for our showcase on Friday.

I also had a Mentor Visit with Ms. Berry and we discussed my Final Product journey. I mentioned the questions I incorporated into my Newspaper staffer survey and explained that I chose to ask about media literacy’s significance and my staffers’ familiarity with the topic in order to gain succinct information. I wrote her Mentor Bio and mentioned key details about her educational and teaching background. I shared it with her and asked her to look over it whenever she got the chance. I talked with her about my personal ISM deadlines and my plan to share the survey on Tuesday. I also mentioned my work on my Final Product and progress on my FOIA Request Draft. I discussed my idea to submit multiple requests just in case one doesn’t go through and I mentioned the website I was using to gain inspiration for my FOIA request.

I spent a lot of time working on my Final Product itself, taking the research I have done so far and applying it to my presentation slides. I discussed key points of journalism, newsgames, and outlined what I’ve learned so far and my overall goals. I believe that I have accomplished so much with my Final Product and am proud of the information that I have put on it so far.

Lastly, we had our ISM showcase at UNT Frisco and it was a blast! It was so rewarding to be able to show all of the hard work that I have done so far and see so many people. I was inspired by the work of other FISD schools and took note of their creative, visually appealing, and interactive aspects. The thing that stood out to me the most was getting to talk to those who were unfamiliar with my work/topic and being able to illustrate to them the importance of what I’m doing and relate its impact to them. I loved the ability to elaborate on how I became interested in my topic and the work I have been doing towards my Final Product. I had a small hiccup as I could not connect my Chromebook to the UNT Frisco WiFi, so I was unable to showcase my Final Product so far. However, I was still able to present what I have done and I was glad to problem solve during that moment. I am grateful for the way ISM has pushed me to go out of my comfort zone and further enhance my presentation skills.

I took time this past weekend to relax and decompress after presenting, and I am glad to reflect on everything that I have achieved so far.
