This school week was crazy! I had several tests and spent the week studying and preparing for them. I also had a Mentor Visit with Ms. Berry, completed Research Assessment #16, and we had our class Display Board showcase.
My Mentor Visit with Ms. Berry was very informative and I sent her my Final Product Proposal, ISM calendar, and an invitation to the district-wide ISM Showcase. We discussed feedback for the Final Product Proposal and she also helped me decide what topic I would like to research for my Research Assessment #16. I chose to reflect on a study about newsgames and its effects on the political world. I learned about its role in influencing users when taking action in politics and how newsgames itself can inform and persuade people. I was unaware of what newsgames were so I gained much insight on the subject. I am very glad to have Ms. Berry here to guide me as I continue researching for my Final Product.
Elaborating more on my Research Assessment #16, I enjoyed annotating the study and connecting back a branch of digital media to my focus on scientific data. I looked at the examples presented in the study and learned about the major types of newsgames: Analytical Reportage, Political Commentary, Critical Scrutiny, and Representation. I hope to integrate the effects of newsgames into my presentation about media literacy and evaluate whether they are a good or bad source of information.
Lastly, we held our class showcase. I worked hard to make my board eye-catching and appealing to the audience as I incorporated my personal ISM colors. Throughout the week, I summarized the research I have completed thus far regarding my topic and Original Work, printed out graphics, and organized my board neatly and professionally. Before the class showcase started, I was extremely nervous, but my nervousness was alleviated as I kept talking to people and gained quality feedback. I loved getting to answer questions about my topic and hear other people’s thoughts about my board. I feel so much more confident to present what I have learned at our district-wide showcase and am glad we had a “practice” showcase at our campus.
I found it hard to balance all of my tasks at the same time, but am grateful that I completed everything on time! I’m excited to implement feedback and get lots of rest next week!
