This week in ISM was a blur! I conducted my fourth interview, worked on my Research Assessment #11, and discussed Research Speeches during class. I also had 2 tests in AP Chemistry and AP US History this week, so time management was key.
My fourth interview was with Ms. Vicki Chen at Community Impact. I had the opportunity to shadow Community Impact’s monthly editorial meeting which opened my eyes to the setting of a real newsroom and it was very insightful. I loved seeing the behind-the-scenes of publishing Community Impact and overall goals for the company this month. I also enjoyed witnessing the collaboration and layout of the meeting, and the experience reminded me of why I wanted to join the journalism industry in the first place.
I worked on my Research Assessment #11 which is centered around how to publish an article for a scientific journal. I chose this article because I want to learn more about writing/publishing tips and the topic aligned with my concentration of scientific journalism. It stressed the importance of being concise and having a clear structure while writing. I hope to incorporate this new information into my original work, and I hope to finish my analysis and assessment of the article early next week as we were given extra time to complete it (Thank you Mrs. Russell!)
Lastly, we discussed Research Speech criteria and expectations during class and watched an example of a previous student’s speech. I am glad we went through the expectations and were able to view an example as it gives us a good basis of what to do and will help us be even more prepared for our individual speeches. I am very excited to prepare my presentation that encompasses all of the research I have done up to this point, and plan to work on the structure of it this week.
Overall, I felt more confident and well-rested this past week. I hope to get even more sleep and be even more productive this coming week!
